One big change is that there will be no boat parade this year. “The fact that the event supports The Geist Lake Coalition and the health and safety of the lake gives a certain gravitas and community impact to the event as well.” “The location is unique and the experience is second to none,” Elliot says. “The Geist Lake Coalition treats weekly for the invasive aquatic weeds and algae on well over 300 surface acres of shoreline at Geist, which is almost 20 percent of the entire reservoir,” Hall adds.Įlliot says the Blast on the Bridge is “one of the best fireworks shows in Central Indiana.” It also fills in holes where strong support from homeowners doesn’t exist. “It also funds our Geist Clean Up days, lake safety awareness, as well as the treatment of Invasive Aquatic Weeds and Algae in common areas. “The bulk of these initiatives are stream bank remediation and erosion control projects, the purchase of a new channel, shoreline set back and idle zone buoys,” Hall says. Hall says both the Blast on the Bridge and the Fireworks display are fundraisers for the Geist Lake Coalition’s clean water initiatives, along with sponsorships and other fundraising efforts. “We plan to include a brief program to recognize Independence Day and the meaning behind it.”įood, beverages and spirits will be available for purchase, while children enjoy games and activities. “We aim to add more vendors and diversified food offerings to provide great service to the attendees,” Elliot says.
